Make a crossword puzzle in a minute
The crossword maker builds a crossword on any topic, from a textbook passage or from your own word list. AI picks the words and writes a clue for each one, and the grid is built automatically: the words cross, the squares are numbered and the clues are split into Across and Down.
How to make a crossword puzzle
- Choose what you have: a topic or a text — AI picks the words; your own words — AI writes the clues.
- Type a topic (“The Solar System”, “Human body”, “Christmas”), paste a text, press Photo to take it from a picture of the page, or list your words, one per line.
- Set the number of words and the grade if you like: 5 to 30 words, 10–15 is usually enough.
- Press Make crossword.
A crossword from your own words
Choose “My own words” and list the words, one per line. AI writes a clue for each word. If you already have a clue, add it after a dash: “MOON — Earth’s natural satellite”; it stays as you wrote it. You can change words and clues later on the Words and clues tab of the result and build the crossword again.
What you can do with the crossword
- Solve it online. Type letters in the squares and press Check to see how many words are right.
- Download a printable PDF: the empty grid with the clues on the first page, the answer key on the second.
- Print it straight from the browser.
- Try another layout if you want the words placed differently.
Tips for a good crossword
- One clue, one answer: a clue should lead to a single word.
- The clue never contains the answer or a word with the same root.
- Use single words without spaces or hyphens.
- A few long words help the others cross, so the grid comes out denser.

Why didn’t all the words fit in the grid?
A word goes into the grid only if it crosses another word. Press Another layout or replace the word on the Words and clues tab.
Can I make a crossword in another language?
Yes. Choose the language of the answer before you make the crossword. Accents are left out of the squares, as in printed crosswords.
