How to check if an image is AI-generated
- Click "Choose an image", drop a file on the page or paste a picture from the clipboard.
- In a few seconds you get the answer: "looks AI-generated", "not sure" or "looks like a real photo", with a probability in percent.
- If the file still has provenance labels, we show them on a separate line: many generators — ChatGPT, Gemini, Adobe Firefly — label their pictures, and some phones and cameras sign their photos.
What the detector recognizes
Pictures of popular generators: Midjourney, ChatGPT, Gemini (Nano Banana), FLUX, Stable Diffusion, Seedream, Ideogram, Recraft, and frames from Sora and Veo videos. We tested it on more than a thousand real photos from phones and cameras and on one and a half thousand AI images: it mistakes a real photo for AI in about one case out of a hundred and recognizes images of recent generators in nine cases out of ten.
When the answer is less reliable
- The image was forwarded many times. Messengers and social networks compress pictures and strip labels.
- It is a screenshot or a photo of a screen. Upload the image file itself if you can.
- The image is small. A thumbnail has few details — find a larger original.
- AI changed only a part of the photo — for example, replaced the background or removed an object.
The detector gives an estimate, not proof. If something depends on the result, look for the original source of the picture and compare it with other photos of the same event.
