Word cloud generator — turn any text into a picture where the most frequent words are the biggest. A word cloud shows at a glance what a text is about: the main ideas move to the centre by themselves. People make word clouds for slides, lessons, greeting cards, posts and to see what survey answers or reviews talk about.
How to create a word cloud
- Paste your text or open a .txt file. The cloud is drawn right away.
- Choose a shape (circle, heart, star and others), colors, background and font. For a slide pick 16:9, for social media a square or portrait image.
- Remove a word you do not need: click it in the cloud or type it into Hide words.
- Press Another layout to arrange the words differently and Download PNG when the cloud is ready.
Word forms and filler words
Common words such as “the”, “and” or “of” would be the biggest in any cloud, so they are removed. Singular and plural forms are counted together: “book” and “books” become one word. Names and abbreviations keep their capital letters. If you need every word exactly as written, untick the options under the settings. The cloud works with English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German and Italian texts.
A word cloud from your own words
On the My own words tab, write one word or phrase per line. The first words are bigger. To set the size exactly, add a number after the word: “happiness 5”, “luck 3”. This is how people make a cloud of wishes for a birthday card, a cloud of a person’s qualities or a cloud of key terms for a lesson.
Word cloud ideas
- PowerPoint and Google Slides. A cloud made from a report or a chapter makes a strong title slide. Choose a transparent background, download the PNG and place it on the slide. The slides themselves can be drafted with the presentation maker.
- Classroom. Make a cloud from a text or a poem and let students guess the topic or recall the key terms. The same words can become a crossword.
- Greeting cards. Wishes, a name and qualities in the shape of a heart.
- Surveys and reviews. Paste the answers and see what people mention most often.
- Website texts. The cloud and the frequency table show which words repeat too often. Count the length with the word counter.
Word frequency
Below the cloud there is a table: how many times each word appears, all its forms included. Copy the list and paste it into Excel or Google Sheets.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a word cloud?
A picture made of the words of a text, where the size of each word depends on how often it appears: frequent words are big, rare ones are small. It is also called a tag cloud.
Is the word cloud generator free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark on the image.
How do I make a word cloud with a specific shape?
Choose the shape in the settings: circle, heart, square, diamond, star, triangle or pentagon. The words fill the shape, and the image keeps the chosen background.
How do I make a word cloud from my own words and set their size?
Open the My own words tab and write one word per line. To set the size, add a number: “dream 5” is bigger than “dream 2”.
How do I put a word cloud into PowerPoint?
Choose the 16:9 image and a transparent background, press Download PNG and insert the file on the slide. You can also press Copy image and paste it straight into the slide.
How do I remove a word from the cloud?
Click it in the cloud or the cross in the frequency table. The word goes to the Hide words field together with its forms; delete it from there to bring it back.
Where does my text go?
Nowhere: the cloud is drawn right in the browser, the text is not sent to a server and is not saved.
